由於週三伊朗對美軍基地進行的導彈襲擊，推動金價上漲至千六美元，原油價格也持續上漲，但在幾小時後，由於避險情緒的消退，全球股市恢復上漲，金價也回歸了正常的形態。
政治局勢危機越來越難以對金融市場產生持久的影響。就最基本層面而言，投資者看來好像相信伊朗和美國將避免更廣泛的戰火。近年來已證明，區域性軍事爆炸和衝突爆發不會對石油供應和油價或全球經濟活動產生持久的影響。即便9月時沙特石油設施遇襲也未對原油價格造成持續性影響。波斯灣之外，多年來朝鮮核子試驗和導彈發射並未升級，也未長期影響國際投資格局。
分析師指出，科技發展意味著今天全球創造1美元的GDP所需要的石油要少得多。他還強調，1973年的時候產油國會把額外的石油收入存起來作為儲蓄，給全球經濟需求造成淨衝擊，因為這些錢來自石油買家的口袋。到了2020年，產油國把這筆錢毫無顧慮地進行消費，因此油價上漲並不意味著經濟需求大幅降低，或有任何潛在的降低。
戰爭和侵略曾造成市場發生重大轉變，導致小規模恐慌和避險資產買盤。但近幾十年的經驗表明，在所有因素相同的情況下，市場往往會迅速復蘇，有膽量無視短期震盪的資產組合經理往往表現很好，甚至不需要進行昂貴的對沖。
2003年，作為全球最值得信賴資產之一的德國政府公債收益率在3月至6月期間下跌了近70個基點；1990年下跌幅度與之相近。分析師表示，回顧過去的幾十年就會發現，每當發生長期戰爭是可能性更大的結果時，人們就會爭相買進政府公債。施羅德投資指出，在風險極高時期，包括公債和黃金在內的“安全”資產投資組合通常跑贏“風險較大”的股票。
但是，在所有這些情況下，股票在幾個月內就回升了，這表明如果投資者願意或能夠忽略波動性，那麼投資於風險較高的資產組合是比投資於安全資產組合更好的策略。
