美国5月份关税收入创纪录新高，有助于缩小当月预算赤字，不过，随着特朗普政府与贸易伙伴进行谈判，而且关税错措施面临司法挑战，对关税收入持续性的疑问依然存在。美国财政部月度预算报告显示，5月份关税收入达230亿美元，同比增长170亿美元，增幅270%。扣除日历年差异因素后，5月份财政赤字为3,160亿美元，同比减少17%。本财年前八个月的赤字为1.37万亿美元。该部门一位官员向记者表示，考虑到从2023年递延至2024年的收入以及日历年差异，本财年以来的赤字收窄1%。推动上个月财政状况改善的另一个因素在于，偿债成本下降。一位官员称，这得益于通胀挂钩债券的利息支出降低，以及国库券贴现降低。
