12月22日，由于美元反弹牵制黄金价格，虽然美国国会敲定9000亿美元的刺激计划，但颓势英镑让美元有所反弹，加上病毒而持续传播，英欧的贸易通道被切断，加上英欧谈判出现不少糊涂账，距离双方达成协议的谈判时间所剩无几。
如果持有较为积极的观点，比如疫苗很快就能分发起效，那么明年下半年经济会很快复苏。在这种情况下，通胀升温就变得很现实了，这对黄金是利好的。 如果全球疫情得到控制，那么消费者需求会增长，经济会复苏，同样意味着通胀。
英国在脱欧期限来临前的几天旅行陷入混乱，并引发食物短缺的可能。尽管专家表示该病毒株可能已在许多国家传播，只是它们的检测方式没有英国那么先进。
法国关闭了人与卡车从英国入境的边界，断绝了一条与欧洲大陆最为重要的贸易要道，造成数以百计的货运卡车受困英国多佛港。目前法国和英国政府就重开边界展开谈判，可能在当地时间周二中午前就重新开放边境达成协议。
英欧贸易谈判的动向似乎也无助于减轻英镑面临的抛压。英国首相约翰逊和欧盟委员会主席冯德莱恩周一就渔业议题进行了对话，但英国官员随后放风，称英国最新的渔业提议被欧盟拒绝。此消息一出，英镑盘中急挫逾60点至日低1.3364，日内最大跌幅近0.7%。
尽管随后又有欧盟消息人士放风，称欧盟愿意接受英国水域渔获减少25%价值的提议，使得英镑兑美元汇率收复日内逾半数跌势，但是已经无法扭转英欧双方在月底前达成贸易协议的前景被进一步看衰。
美国国会周一通过了一项8920亿美元的新冠疫情援助法案，在数月未采取行动后终于为美国受疫情重创的经济提供了一条救生索，国会同时还为联邦政府提供了可维持运转一年所需的拨款。总统特朗普料将很快将该法案签署为法律。
该公司分析师指出，就目前状况而言，新一轮抗疫纾困法案也不会是最后一份，因为我们面临的是结构性问题，从经济角度看，这些问题在来年依然会困扰我们。
美国当选总统拜登周一在电视实况转播的情况下接种第一剂新冠疫苗，在明年疫苗获得广泛配送前，希望藉此提升民众对疫苗安全性的信心。新冠疫情已经导致逾1847万美国人染疫，近32.7万美国人丧生。
