3月11日晚，欧洲央行行长强调当前不确定性仍然存在，过早地收紧政策是不太可取的，在消息公布后，欧元兑美元出现短线下跌，但市场也在等待更多消息的指引。
拉加德：过早收紧政策是不可取的，保持有利的融资条件至关重要。欧洲央行准备根据需要调整所有工具，下个季度紧急抗疫购债计划（PEPP）的购买速度将显著加快。
拉加德称：疫苗接种支撑了经济复苏的预期，欧洲央行预计2021年的GDP增长将为4.0%，而12月预期为3.9%。但持续高的新冠感染率和封锁在短期内会对经济增长造成压力，最新数据表明第一季度经济持续疲软，经济可能在第一季度出现萎缩。
拉加德称，通胀已经抬头，1月、2月通胀急剧上升，预测显示潜在的通胀压力将逐渐增加，通胀上升主要是由于短期因素。根据石油期货走势，预计通胀将在未来几个月上升。一旦疫情的影响消退，通货膨胀的压力将逐渐上升。
对政策制定者而言，近几周来债券收益率急升，可能进一步压抑经济活动，也让问题更为复杂。近期债市抛售期间，欧洲央行都未提高紧急购债规模。投资者预计，如果德国公债收益率从目前的负0.30%升至接近0%，欧洲央行将进行大规模干预。
事实上，尽管德国10年期国债收益率年初以来上涨了约25个基点，但继续处于负值，在大多数人看来仍然很低。对欧洲央行而言，更为关键的是，德国与其他国家债券之间的利差基本保持稳定。
在过去的两周中，购债量实际上有所减少，这使得人们对备受欧洲重视的“购债灵活性”预期感到困惑，不符合政策制定者提出的一系列口头警告。市场现在对欧洲央行的承诺表示怀疑。
决策者之间的分歧也可能使收益率控制变得复杂化。尽管一些利率制定者已经在要求采取行动，但保守的政策制定者认为，收益率的增长幅度很小，而且前景光明，至少在一定程度上是合理的。
全球通货膨胀率正在上升，新冠疫苗接种也正在推进中，增强了人们对解除社交封锁的期望。但相比美国或英国，欧洲在抗疫成就方面显示出更多低效，似乎落伍了。而且与美国所提供的措施不同，欧盟的财政刺激措施充其量只能算适度，因此经济体将需要更持久的央行刺激措施。
