8月17日，现货黄金有所走强，由于抗疫方面传来积极消息，金价涨幅有限，另一方面美国大选进入更激烈的阶段，同时美联储7月会议纪要即将公布，市场对此感到不安，因此支撑金价。
中国知识产权局官网最新信息显示，中国人民解放军军事科学院军事医学研究院院士陈薇团队和康希诺生物股份公司联合申请的新冠疫苗专利获批准，为中国首个新冠疫苗被授予专利权。
俄罗斯总统普京上周表示，俄罗斯成为全球第一个给予一款新冠肺炎疫苗监管批准的国家，并称他的其中一个女儿已经接种了该疫苗，她在短暂的低烧之外，感觉良好。普京希望俄罗斯能尽快开始大规模生产这种疫苗。
在美联储周四(8月20日)公布7月会议纪要前，市场也有些紧张不安，等待寻觅有关美联储在9月召开下次会议时可能调整指引的蛛丝马迹。外界益发揣测美联储将采用平均通胀目标，这将寻求把通胀率推升至逾2%一段时间，以弥补多年来在2%下方的情况。
7月份，美国劳动人口当中有近五分之一领取失业救济。尽管如此，美国民众的消费热情仍相对强劲，7月零售销售年率录得2.74%，远高于前值1.1%；7月零售销售月率录得1.9%，也明显好于预期。
由于新冠疫情卷土重来，一些州实施了新的限制措施，加上失业率居高不下、政府福利即将到期，1.9%的7月零售销售月率远低于前值8.3%，表明7月份消费者已变得愈发谨慎，被疫情可能重燃以及由此引发的收入悬崖恐惧所牵制。
美国大选对市场的影响今年一直被冠状病毒大流行和美国政策制定者前所未有的刺激措施盖过了风头。不过随着民主党全国代表大会即将召开，选战将进入更加激烈的阶段。
美国众议院议长佩洛希、参议院民主党领袖舒默、众议院监督与改革委员会主席Carolyn Maloney等民主党发表联合声明称：“总统曾明确表示，他计划干预邮局，阻止符合资格的选民邮寄投票。邮政局长和邮政部门高层官员必须回答国会和美国人民，他们为何在大选前几个月推进这些危险的新政策，这些政策可能令数百万美国人无法发声。”
